The Baker and the Mother Duck

For more than a month, a banker watched a mother duck sitting on a ledge outside his office window. One day, as he glanced up at his office window from the street below, he saw that the mother’s ducklings had hatched and they were nervously walking back and forth on the ledge. The mother called to her babies from the street below, but the ledge was high, and if they jumped down to her, they would surely be injured or killed. 

Frantic for the safety of the babies, the banker stood below the ledge, reached out his hands, and caught each duckling as they leapt off the ledge. A crowd that had gathered to watch a parade cheered. The banker stopped traffic and guarded the mother and her babies as she led them to the river, two blocks away. All arrived safely.

منذ أكثر من شهر، كان أحد المصرفيين ينظر إلى بطة أم تجلس على حافة نافذة مكتبه. وفي أحد الأيام، وبينما كان يلقى نظرة من نافذة مكتبه على الشارع في الأسفل، شاهد فراخ تلك البطة الأم قد فقست وكانت تسير بقلق ذهابا وإياباً على الحافة. قامت الأم باستدعاء أفراخها من الشارع في الأسفل، لكن الحافة كانت مرتفعة، وإذا قفزت هذه الفراخ  فإنها قد تتعرض للإصابة أو القتل.

من شدة خوف المصرفي على سلامة الفراخ، وقف المصرفي تحت الحافة، ومد يده ليسمك بكل الفراخ قبل أن تقفز عن الحافة، وهتف الحشد الذي تجمع ووقف لمشاهدة العرض. قام المصرفي بإيقاف حركة السير، وقام بحراسة الأم وفراخها حتى قادتهم إلى النهر بعد اجتياز حاجزين بعيدين، ووصل الجميع بسلام.
